I call it “The Unplanned Career” or perhaps “The Career of Diminishing Product Size.” I say “unplanned” because I never targeted a specific role after my first position as a manufacturing process engineer at Chevrolet. Instead, I have been blessed with unexpected opportunities and a willingness to take risks to gain new experiences. I say “diminishing product size” because my work shifted from massive 170-ton mining trucks to Class 8 tractor-trailers, to Class 4, 5, and 6 medium-duty trucks, to tiny smart cars, and eventually to electric motorcycles. I enjoyed every step of the journey.

The common denominator across all these roles was the absolute importance of effective communication. This was true whether I was on the manufacturing floor at Chevrolet, speaking to global mine managers at Euclid, or supporting major truck fleet owners and dealer networks at Freightliner. It remained vital when I returned to the manufacturing floor and engineering staff at Diesel Technology. Later, I started my own company to build marketing messages for transportation clients and managed national sales and distribution for Hino Trucks USA. As VP of Administration for smart USA, I oversaw fixed operations and the development of a nationwide dealership network. I then entered the venture capital world as CEO of Glacier Bay and Mission Motors, working with private equity investors, before joining Schwartz Advisors as a Managing Partner to help transportation aftermarket companies grow organically and navigate mergers and acquisitions. SA’s sign may be small in the image above, but their work generates big results.

In this new initiative, I operate as a solo practitioner offering clients two types of engagement:

  1. The GBC Webinar Series: Over my 50-year career, I have chronicled my diverse communication experiences. I am excited to share this journey with you, hoping that the strategies that worked for me can bring success to your business.

  2. One-on-One Advisory: I work directly with CEOs and their leadership teams to craft high-impact messages for customers, employees, board directors, and other key stakeholders.

50 Years?!

Is any of this information still relevant?

I have given a lot of thought to GBC’s content. Many of my stories and examples are timeless, remaining every bit as relevant today as they were when I first experienced them. They serve as excellent communication tools and highly actionable examples for anyone in today’s business community. Other content, however, requires a collaborative approach. The business climate has shifted dramatically over the last few years, with post-pandemic adjustments still impacting how corporate teams interact, and artificial intelligence rapidly transforming the workplace landscape. To address these shifts, I have reached out to a diverse cross-section of professionals who represent the future of work. Together, we will explore the leading edge of business transformation.
